Music For Non-Majors

The following classes are open to all students, with no pre-requisites for students outside of the music department:

  • MUS 120 Basic Music
  • MUS 309 Singing for Self-Expression
  • MUS 501 Music, the Listener's Art
  • MUS 505 Music of the World's Peoples
  • MUS 506 Survey of Jazz
  • MUS 511 Origins of Rock

Entrance into theory classes requires a placement exam. As these classes are required, and in sequence, for all music majors, admission into Major Core classes is offered first to Majors, then to minors, and only if there are spaces available do they become available to non-music students. Core classes usually fill up with majors before they get opened, but if you're interested in waiting for a spot, you must take the department's placement exams on August 22nd.

ENSEMBLES

Entrance into Music Ensembles is by audition only. Please come by the Creative Arts building during the first week of classes to find out when auditions will be held for the group(s) you are interested. Information will be posted throughout the Music Department.
