Seventh Wayne Peterson Prize in Music Composition The School of Music and Dance at San Francisco State, in joint sponsorship with the Left Coast Ensemble, announces the Seventh Wayne Peterson Prize in Music Composition. The award consists of a $4000 cash prize and a public performance by the Left Coast Ensemble during their 2004-2005 season. To be eligible, composers must be 40 years or younger (as of January 1, 2004) and be U.S. citizens or legal residents of the U.S. or its Territories. Submissions must be anonymous (use a pseudonym on the score) and consist of a single 12-15 minute composition for 2-6 players chosen from: flute/piccolo/alto flute; oboe/ English horn; clarinet/bass clarinet; piano; two violins; viola; cello; contra bass. (Please note that percussion is NOT included.) The use of pre-recorded electronics is welcome. The composition: (1) must have been written within two years prior to January1, 2004; (2) must NOT have been awarded a prize; (3) may have been previously performed. Former winners of the W. P. Prize ARE eligible to compete. Applicants should send two legible, bound copies of the score, two copies of a recording, if available, and a self addressed, stamped envelope for return of materials to: Wayne Peterson Composition Prize, Department of Music and Dance, San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94132. In addition, a sealed envelope (with the pseudonym on the outside) should be included which contains the composer's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth. Submission deadline: April 20, 2004 (postmark date). Entry fee: a $20 non-refundable check (drawn on a U. S. bank) or money order must accompany the entry. Make checks payable to Wayne Peterson. (Incorrectly drawn checks or money orders will be returned and render the applicant ineligible.) The WINNER will be announced in June, 2004 and will be expected to provide a complete set of parts no later than two months prior to the performance date.
